Absolute versus relative age difference

An absolute difference states the number of years between two ages. A relative comparison shows how large that gap is compared with the older or younger age. For example, an eight-year difference represents a different proportion at ages 18 and 26 than at ages 62 and 70.

Formula used

The calculator divides the absolute gap by each stated age and multiplies by 100. It also divides the older age by the younger age to show the age ratio.
